CAN Michigan

Covenant Ability Network of Michigan

Promoting independence, security and a fulfilling lifestyle for those with intellectual disabilities.

Many people take the ability to live independently for granted. For adults with developmental disabilities the world is a different place. For them, the ability to live as independently as possible is a gift.

It is also a gift to their families. As parents consider the future for their disabled children, they search for residential programs that mirror their values and lifestyles. They want reassurance that their child will live in a home setting and receive the care and assistance they need to live a fulfilling life. At Covenant Ability Network of Michigan, we enable adults with developmental disabilities to live independent, full lives.

Learn about our residences in Michigan below:

Faith House and Hope House of Grand Rapids

Located side-by-side on the campus of Covenant Living of the Great Lakes, Faith House is home to six men with developmental disabilities and Hope House is home to six women with developmental disabilities. Faith and Hope Houses were developed through the hard work of a dedicated group of volunteers from the greater Grand Rapids area. Local Covenant congregations as well as local businesses answered our appeal during the capital campaigns. Many local companies made in-kind donations of labor and materials to help defray the construction costs, furnishings and office equipment.

Also, being located on the Covenant Living campus provides a unique synergy between our residents and the residents of the retirement campus. Programming opportunities abound with residents sharing bible studies, movie nights with some even attending church together.

The development of Faith House and Hope House were truly the result of the great Grand Rapids faith and business communities answering God’s call to bring this ministry here.

Mary’s House & Joseph’s House of Muskegon

With one residence for women and another for men, Mary’s House and Joseph’s House have been serving a dozen adults with developmental disabilities in Muskegon since 2001. The side-by-side homes are situated on the property of Forest Park Covenant Church, which originally provided all of the funding needed to build both homes.

Residents experience the warmth of a Christian family lifestyle. They live as a Christian family and contribute to the family to the full extent of their abilities. In the small community, one resident’s strength can complement the needs of another.

In this Christian environment, the physical, emotional and spiritual health of each member of the community is valued, protected and nurtured. Individualized, carefully monitored programs challenge residents to reach their potential through education, training and the development of social skills.
